Wedding-Proof Makeup!

Hi Dipped Dolls!

The month of April is upon us and for me, it’s a month long event filled with weddings! Three of my nearest and dearest are getting hitched within 2 weeks of each other and I can’t be happier. Love is in the air!

Naturally you want to look your very, very best at your friends’ big day(s), as opposed to a hot mess who slapped on layers of face concrete and stole Larry the Clown’s lippie. No indeed. I wanted to feign good health and look like I slept for eight hours, exude radiance with a sun-kissed, post-beach glow and sculpt my face with the same precision and contour à la Kim Kardashian.

I’ve been experimenting with a barrage of makeup and beauty products and after having tried and tested the lot, here are a few tricks:

1)   Gorgio Armani highlighter – Fluid Sheer

What I absolutely love about this highlighter is its fluid consistency so you can literally apply it anywhere. Sweep some on your cheekbones, brow bones and in the middle of your nose to achieve that radiant glow and definition without looking like a Chinese opera singer. If you’re wearing a strapless dress dab some on your shoulder blades and décolletage to sculpt your upper half.

2)   Nars Bronzer in Casino

This bronzer really is Bali in a compact. It’s got the right amount of subtle shimmer, (so you don’t end up looking like you fell into a pot of orange glitter) as well as the right shade to contour and bronze. A makeup artist taught me to apply bronzer like you are drawing a number ‘3’ on both sides of your face, which really works. Combine this with the Gorgio Armani highlighter and you’ll get the cheekbones and glow to rival Beyoncé.

3)   Dior Sourcils Poudre Eyebrow Pencil

I find most brow pencils really tricky to apply; they’re not the most intuitive of makeup tools. The colour is either really gradual or really intense. So the ‘pencil-in, shade-in, then repeat’ process doesn’t always turn out right. With most brow pencils I either pencil in too much, where no amount of shading will stop me from looking like Frida Kahlo or you can hardly see the colour even though I spent ages just pencilling in my brows. The Dior eyebrow pencil has a powder-like consistency, so it’s fairly easy to apply. The colour matches brows perfectly and comes in a variety of shades, so even if you do go overboard with the pencilling, it doesn’t look all that bad. And because it’s a powder, the shade-in brush works a treat too.

4)   Sephora Contour Eyepencil 12hr Wear Waterproof

If something is going to get you through the waterworks after seeing your friend cross the finish line into holy matrimony, its waterproof eyeliner. I really like Sephora’s in dark brown and black, which I use for day and night, respectively. It doesn’t smudge and lasts for ages. Even through my embarrassing outburst of sobs and snivels.

 5)   Clé de Peu Beauté Concealer

If there’s one thing I can’t live without, its concealer. I should be named the Concealer Queen. I’ve tried pretty much every big brand concealer, and I have to carry some with me wherever I go or I literally will have a meltdown. It’s a sick obsession. My current favourite, which I have been addicted to this past year, is Cle de Pea stick concealer in Honey. It blends so sublimely it looks like second stick, it lasts, thanks to high performance powders built-in and it’s wonderfully moisturising too. I adore this.

6)   Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm

These days it’s all about BBs and CCs and what have you. This one is the front-runner for me. It’s incredibly light and has the consistency of a gel-lotion. It provides sheer, tinted coverage to mattify, prime as well as to protect your skin.   It’s ideal for outdoor weddings when you don’t want foundation running down your face. If you want to build more coverage, it works great as a primer before your foundation.

7)   MAC Skinsheen Leg Spray

For my dull, tired legs which are chequered with scars this is the ultimate pick-me-up. No need to scrub and exfoliate half your epidermis when you can spray on silky, smooth, tanned legs! This soft-like mousse blends perfectly to legs, arms, shoulders and décolletage.

Here's to cheating your way to looking fabulous!

Love and more love,
